Glad you are here!

Since we created the SBC, we have presented at several conferences throughout Illinois on topics related to our Skills Based teaching approach.

Together, we have worked closely with schools and administrators to help realign teaching and grading practices in order to create classrooms where learning is the primary focus.

If you are interested in learning more, or you would like to see us present on the elements of the SBC approach, please reach out to us to for a list of our future speaking engagements.

Welcome to the Skills Based Classroom.  My name is Keenan Clark.  I received my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education (1998) and a Masters degree in Education Administration (2008) from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale.  I have 25 years of experience in education.  I spent my first 22 years teaching mathematics at the eighth through twelfth grade levels.  I also spent two years in elementary school administration before volunteering to transfer back into the classroom.  It was during my two years in administration where I had the seeds planted for the Skills Based Classroom.  In 2022, I reentered the classroom with a new approach to teaching and I can't wait to share it with you.

My wife, Kaci, is a Social Studies teacher and we have been married since 2003.  We work together at Carterville High School in Carterville, Il.  Kaci and I have four children (Elsie, Olin, Caplan, and Clemmie) who range in age from thirteen down to seven years old.

My name is Jake Towers, and thanks for visiting Skills Based Classroom.  I am starting my sixth year of teaching at Carterville High School.  I graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2018 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Education.  I also received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Illinois University in 2022.  I was lucky enough to do my student teaching under the mentorship of Mr. Clark and then was able to teach next door to him the following school year.  I am also a coach in the district. I have coached football, basketball, and track over the course of my time at Carterville.

My wife, Madison, is a speech pathologist at a local school district.  We have a puppy, Harry Potter-Styles.  I also come from a family of educators.  My father has been a district administrator for over twenty years.  My mother has been a special education teacher for over thirty years.
